Die Kaiserkrönung Karls des Großen im Jahr 800 in Rom durch Papst Leo III. bedeutete die Erneuerung des Kaisertums im Westen. Aus Anlaß der 1200. Wiederkehr dieses Ereignisses befaßte sich ein Kolloquium in Paderborn mit dem Treffen Karls und Leos in dieser Stadt am "Vorabend" der Kaiserkrönung.
